What Is a Home Warranty?
A home warranty is a contract covering repairs and replacements on systems and appliances in your home, usually for a period of one year.
Home Warranty Facts Every Homeowner Should Know
What Is a Home Warranty Plan?
A home warranty plan refers specifically to your individual contract. For many standard home warranty plans, this may include coverage of all the parts and components of your home's electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems as well as many other home appliances. You can also customize your plan with HWA--in addition to basic items in your home, you can add coverage for items such as a well pump, a stand-alone freezer or even a pool or spa.
What's the Difference Between a Home Warranty and Home Insurance?
Home warranties are designed to protect your home's appliances and systems from breakdowns caused by normal wear and tear. Homeowners insurance pays for damages and loss caused by unexpected events such as fire and weather damage, but it won't help if your washing machine breaks down. What Does a Home Warranty Cover?
A home warranty will cover your home's critical systems and appliances that are in good condition when you purchase your plan. When you enter a contract with a warranty company, it is important to review your contract and coverage before you need it.
Make sure you're clear on:
- What is covered by the home warranty and what is not;
- Any cap limits on coverage; and
- Any deductibles or trade call fees.
How Does a Home Warranty Work?
Imagine you've been using that lovely new refrigerator you purchased last year and then suddenly, as soon as the manufacturer's warranty expires, it dies on you. If you don't have a home warranty, it may cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars to fix or replace it.
If you have a home warranty with HWA, you can file a claim online or with our customer service team and we'll take care of the rest. Once the claim is received, we'll connect you with an approved service provider to assess the problem and your appliance or system will be fixed as quickly as possible.
Will I Need Multiple Homeowners Warranties?
No, not even if you need to protect appliances or systems that aren't usually covered by a basic home warranty. When purchasing your homeowners warranty, you can usually choose premium or optional coverage to create the level of protection you need.
For example, you may want coverage for a second refrigerator or outdoor pool. These items are not typically covered by a standard home warranty, but they can be easily be added with HWA premium coverage. This coverage includes more than 30 items that are not usually included in other home warranty contracts.
What is the Trade Call Fee?
This is a small fee the homeowner pays to have the service provider come to the house to diagnose the problem. This fee covers the entire visit and the amount is clearly stated on every contract.
Will Every Home Appliance Breakdown Be Covered?
Not all breakdowns are covered. Our contracts explicitly state, section by section, what is covered in each plan and option and what is not. Our customer service team is available to walk you through the coverage details and answer all your questions.
What Home Appliances Will Be Covered?
Home appliance coverage depends upon the plan you choose and the state in which you live. Every home warranty coverage plan can be customized to meet your needs.
